I traveled to Puerto Rico in December 2005.  Here are some travel tips.  Feel free to suggest your own in the Comments section below.

> Lodging in Old San Juan
Fortaleza Guest House
It was $35 per night. The room was simple and the bathroom was shared, but it was all clean. I had a room overlooking Fortaleza Street, so it was noisy at night. Here is the information.

> Tours

I went to the tourism office in Old San Juan. They called some tour companies and helped me find a tour. Not all the tours are offered daily, so you have to check and see what's available. I went on a tour with Castillo Tours.

I took the tour to El Yunque and Luquillo beach. The tour was informative, but I was disappointed like others at the short amount of time we had in El Yunque.

Instead of going to Luquillo beach, I decided to continue onto Fajardo. I took the guagua to Fajardo Playa and got a roundtrip ticket to Vieques. It is far from the town of Fajardo.

> Vieques
I had not planned on going to Vieques, so I was not sure what to do when I got there. After walking around for a bit, I realized that I better take the guagua to Esperanza ($3). In Esperanza there is a place that rents snorkeling gear and organizes bioluminescent tours. The woman there was helpful and helped me to find an inexpensive place to stay. Almost everything was booked! The place was not too great, but the cost was $35.

It was great to see the beautiful starry sky at night. I had not seen so many stars in some time. Also I was treated to the songs of El Coqui and other frogs.

I did take bioluminescent tour ($30). It left around 8:30 pm from the town. It was amazing to float under the night sky and watch all the dinoflagelates making silver sparks in the water!

I returned to Isabel Segunda in the morning and returned to Fajardo. By the way, I got a return ticket the day before for the last ferry, but I was able to use the same ticket the next day. It was very reasonable ($2 oneway, $4 roundtrip).

> Nature Reserve, Cabezas de San JuanYou have to make a reservation to go to this nature reserve. I made a reservation in Old San Juan two days before.

Entrance fee is $7. They take you in a trolley car and you visit the mangroves, beach and the lighthouse. It was intersting to learn about the different types of trees in the mangroves.

Afterwards, I went to the Seven Seas Beach and swam a little bit. It's a nice beach.

> Dance Performance in San JuanYou can see a great dance performance at San Cristóbal Fort. It's only on Tuesdays and free with the entrance ticket.

Tuesday San Cristóbal Fort (Old San Juan) 6:00pm- 6:45pm Folkloric Group Areyto "Alegría, Ritmo y Color" Entrance: $3.00

> La Lavanderia & Photography Gallery
La Lavanderia in Old San Juan 201 Calle Sol I stumbled upon this place. It's a laundromat and a photography gallery. They creatively hung the images on a string with clothespin.

> Food Stalls in Old San Juan
In Old San Juan near the tourism office you will find several stalls that sell pina coladas without alcohol. One charged $5 and served it in a funky colorful plastic glass. The one right next to the popcorn cart charges $2, but no fancy cup. I enjoyed the delicious pina coladas, the snow cones, popcorn and pizza. Not the healthiest, but fun in moderation!

> Buses
Buses are a great way to get to know different places in Puerto Rico. Their schedules are not predictable, but quite cheap.

You can take te A1 or A9 bus from the terminal in Old San Juan to Rio Piedras. The terminal is located near the Sheraton. A1 is the express route.

To get to the airport, you can take A5 bus to Isla Verde and then take the C45 bus to the airport. It's a long ride, but leave with plenty of time!

If I remember other things I will post them here later. Also I will let you know when I have posted images to my site.
